Dylan Farrow Responds Scarlett Johansson’s Defense of Woody Allen

Dylan Farrow twitted on Wednesday to express her ideas about Scarlett Johansson’s defense of Woody Allen. “Because if we’ve learned anything from the past two years it’s that you definitely should believe male predators who ‘maintain their innocence’ without question, Scarlett has a long way to go in understanding the issue she claims to champion.”

Dylan Farrow is Woody Allen’s adoptive daughter. She accused of Woody Allen for his sexual abuse when she was a child during #MeToo and Time’s up movements. Woody Allen denied the allegation. Still, the accusation made an impact on Woody Allen’s career. Amazon Studios ended a multifilm deal with Woody Allen and the release of his new film A Rainy Day in New York was cancelled. Allen has filed a lawsuit against Amazon studios for $68 million for breaking the contract.

After the accuse went to the public, Timothée Chalamet and Rebecca Hall, who starred A Rainy Day in New York, donated their salaries to various charities. Selena Gomez, who also showed in this film, did the same thing. According to a source, the money she donated was much more than she earned from this movie. Timothée Chalamet, Colin Firth, Greta Gerwig, Evan Rachel Wood and Ellen Page, who all worked with Woody Allen before, expressed regret over working with the director.

Johansson’s altitude is anything but being regretful compared with these people. She recently told The Hollywood Reporter that “there’s other voices that have more to say on this subject that probably need a microphone. Yeah. I think I’m done speaking on that subject.”

Then Johansson’s saying about she was at the side of this 83-year-old filmmaker made her on front page since Wednesday. “I love Woody. I believe him, and I would work with him anytime.” Johansson told the media in her latest cover story.

Johansson worked with Woody Allen three times. In 2005, she played in Allen’s film Match Point. In 2006, she led the movie Scoop. In 2008, she costarred with Penelope Cruz in Vicky Cristina Barcelona.

Johansson’s trust on Woody Allen was based on her conversation with him. According to Johansson, Woody repeatedly denied the allegation and he was frank with her. From this perspective, Johansson’s support for Allen is more emotional, which means Allen himself or Scarlett could not give any solid evidence to prove Allen’s innocence. Neither did Johansson hear the story from other sides to check whether Allen’s deny is valid. That is the reason why Dylan Farrow satirizes Johansson’s defense on Allen by the phrase “without questions”, implying that her trust on him is untenable. Farrow’s advice to Johansson is to “has a long way to go in understanding the issue she claims to champion”.

Allen Farrow also slams Joy Behar, a co-host of ABC’s “The View”, who also defends Woody Allen. In her show, Joy Behar said that “so at some point, people have to ask if they are going to believe, the authorities who investigated this, or people who are making accusations. But this, with the little girl, he has been exonerated by the experts”.

Allen Farrow tweeted that “Surprising that in discussing my case this morning no one mentioned that the prosecutor in my case, after evaluating ALL the evidence, found probable cause to press criminal charges against Woody. He chose not to only in order to spare me further trauma.”

Farrow then called out Behar directly, “Joy Behar saying that the experts have exonerated Woody Allen is utterly false and a truly abhorrent mischaracterization”, she added.

However, Johansson has her own view. “It’s hard because it’s a time where people are very fired up, and understandably. Things needed to be stirred up, and so people have a lot of passion and a lot of strong feelings and are angry, and rightfully so. It’s an intense time.” With the trending of movement #Metoo, people might be more sensitive and are easy to target someone before the truth finally comes out.

The Hollywood Report quotes Johansson’s saying and requested a further comment or clarification. Until the article it written, no response to the request from Johansson or her representatives.
