Last night, Apple officially launched the iPhone 11 series at its 2019 fall conference. In line with previous exposure, the rear camera of the full line of the products of the iPhone 11 has become square. The innovation of Apple this time is more than it seems to be.
The iPhone 11 Pro has been identified by Apple as a new professional device, but we all know that it is the real successor to the iPhone XS and the previous generations of the iPhone. As for the non-suffixed iPhone 11, it’s just the successor of last year’s “cheap” version of the iPhone XR.
According to Apple’s past “routine”, this year should be a year of “big change” for the new iPhone. But ultimately, the iPhone 11 Pro series has not moved too far away from the base of the iPhone XS and the iPhone X. Perhaps, just as the three generations of the iPhone 6, 7 and 8, Apple’s dramatic update cycle for the appearance of the iPhone has been extended from two years to three years.
The iPhone 11 Pro and the iPhone 11 Pro Max technically correspond to last year’s iPhone XS and the iPhone XS Max, respectively. The 5.8-inch and 6.5-inch OLED Retina displays, and the arc-shaped stainless steel frame are basically the same as last year.
So in order to let others know at a glance that you’ve changed your new iPhone, Apple has introduced a new color scheme for the 11 Pro: dark green, with the previous three colors: black, silver and gold.
In addition to its color, the most recognizable change for iPhone is, of course, the back of the phone. The iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max added a third camera, which forms a raised square module. Unlike previous speculations, Apple accidentally did not use black panels to hide the three cameras.
Maybe it’s because the three cameras made the camera module bigger, Apple’s logo was moved down to the center of the back of the phone. Below the logo, the word “iPhone” that existed from the first generation of the iPhone disappeared. In addition, the glass surface of the back of the iPhone 11 Pro has been changed to a matte texture.
The thickness and weight of the iPhone 11 Pro and the iPhone 11 Pro Max have increased again. Their thickness increased from 7.7 mm to 8.1 mm; the 5.8-inch iPhone 11 Pro weighed 188g, and the 6.5-inch iPhone 11 Pro weighed 226g (the iPhone XS: 177g, the iPhone XS Max: 206g). The capability of waterproof and dust-proof has been improved. Now the iPhone 11 Pro supports IP68 standard protection and can stay for 30 minutes under 4-meter-deep water.
The camera at the back has been increased from two to three, which is the most eye-catching upgrade of the iPhone 11 Pro. A 120 degree angle of view (equivalent focal length 13 mm) ultra wide angle lens is added as a supplement to the original equivalent 26 mm lens (traditional mobile phone perspective) and the equivalent 52 mm lens (longer focal length). Ultra-wide-angle lens also adopt the five-piece optical structure with an aperture value of f/2.4.
All three cameras have 12 million pixels, of which 26 mm wide-angle lens and 52 mm long-focus lens have optical anti-shake. And the 26 mm wide-angle lens has full-pixel focusing, while the 52 mm long-focus lens has pixel focusing (Focus Pixels). This three-camera scheme of ultra-wide angle, wide angle and long focus is consistent with many Android camps in recent years. It’s just that Apple doesn’t pursue a 5-10-fold zoom lens as its rivals do. It still uses an equivalent focal length of about 50mm (a 2-fold zoom).
With the powerful new processor A13, the iPhone 11 Pro and the iPhone 11 can edit video in real time, including cutting, rotating, adding filters, etc. They can also achieve simultaneous viewing from different lens perspectives. Quick-Take function is added too, that is, in the photo interface, video shooting can be done directly by long-pressing the shutter key.
This time, Apple’s strongest point in video functionality is the ability to switch between different focus segments of the video smoothly, which is currently impossible for any Android phone.
Compared with the A12 processor, the A13 processor has greatly improved the performance of CPU and GPU, and continues to dominate the position of the strongest handset processing chip. The real focus of A13 bionics is on automatic learning and low energy consumption. For its 2 performance cores of CPU, A13 is 20% faster and reduces 30% of power consumption. For its 4 efficiency cores of CPU, it is also 20% faster but reduces 40% of power consumption.
For the first time, the iPhone 11 Pro can realize the 18W fast charging with original components.
For Pro model, the USB charging line is upgraded to USB-C Lighting charging. Consumers don’t need to spend an extra penny to get 50% of the fast charge in half an hour, which might be exciting news for some.
